I Found My Old Diary...And Here's What It Says... - Shreya Sachdev

Hey guys! I hope you’re all having a great day. So last night as I was organizing the bookshelves in my office, which is where I study, I came across a few diaries I had written in when I was seven or eight years old. I used to be obsessed with writing in my diary and was actually pretty committed to it as a kid. There are a lot of scribbles and a lot of random drawings in them, but there are also some detailed accounts of what I did on certain days. When I read what I was writing, I felt so nostalgic and remembered those days crystal clear. I just thought that in this blog post, I would share a few extracts from the diary I used to write in when I was eight years old so we can all have a little laugh. To give a little bit of context, I was living in Paris when I was eight years old and was actually getting ready to move to Geneva, which is of course where I’m currently living. Without further ado, let’s get started!

Hello Diary, I am Shreya Sachdev and I am new here. A very very nice friend gave this diary to me. I am sure I will have lots of fun writing and drawing! I can’t wait to write about my friends and my family it will be so exciting! So right now I want to write a lot but I am new so I’m just going to write about my family. I live with my mom, dad, and my big brother. Bye Bye on the next page I will write about what my family likes and does.

Welcome back Diary! Today I am going to write about what my family likes and does. My dad loves cricket and he watches TV a lot. My dad also works in an office. When he was little, he wanted to be a pilot. My brother is the same as my dad except that he wants to work in a office. My mum is a teacher and she likes having picnics and reading books to me, and when she was little she wanted to be an architect. And I want to be an actress when I grow up and I like reading and dancing.

Hello Diary, Guess what guess what? I have very exciting news to tell! If you want to know a lot about me you can type on your internet www.shreydance.com you can find lots of interesting details on this website. There are even fan games that you and your friends can play. See ya there! Hey what are you waiting for just type in www.shreyadance.com!

So far, all of these extracts are hilarious. I do remember how badly I wanted to be an actress when I was younger, and even though that has changed I do still want to go into the entertainment industry. However, now I want to be behind the camera as opposed to in front of the camera. Also, for those of you wondering, I did not actually have a website called www.shreyadance.com when I was eight years old. I have a vague memory of me finding a website online, and then deciding to pretend to create my own. But no, it did not really exist and I think I just wanted to trick people into believing it did. I think we can safely say that eight year old Shreya would be proud of me now….I now do have my own website that gets thousands and thousands of visitors each month!

Hello Diary I hope you have been visiting my website. Yesterday I couldn’t talk about my friends because I had to talk about the website instead but it doesn’t matter because today I’m going to write about my friends and school. There are 6 boys inside my school and 12 girls and including me makes 13. My teacher’s name is Ms.Rosso I like her very much. My best friend’s are Thelma, Sofia, and Katrina.

Thursday, June 27th, 2009 (I actually checked the day in my calendar and it was a Saturday but for some reason I wrote down it was Thursday)

Hello Diary it’s me Shreya. Today I will talk a little bit about myself. I like dancing and I like healthy food. I want to be an actress when I grow up! I like hiphop dancing! and break dancing! I also like entering dance competitions and performing on stage. I love animals my favorite animals are farm animals and I also love the circus. We walk on the tightrope, juggle, walk on a ball, swing on a trapeze, roll on the American roller, do the Chinese plates.

Okay, so I never actually entered any dance competitions or performed on stage, but I think I know why I said that I did. It’s true that I used to love dance as a kid, and that’s because I was obsessed with the show “Dance India Dance (DID)” that I used to watch with my family every single week. My brother and I would never miss an episode and we would always have bets on who we thought would win or on who we thought was going to be eliminated that round. This show was huge in India. The reason as to why I talk about the circus is because when I was eight years old, my school in Paris took us to the circus for five days and we tried out different acts in the circus. It was really fun, but I remember being homesick especially because I was only eight years old.

Sunday, 23rd August, 2009,

I am not feeling well. Every time I try to sleep music comes to my head! I hate Geneva except I can’t say anything because this is my secret journal. Wooo this is a Haiku poem listen well! Your love is about to come be happy study well. My dream hasn’t come true yet but someday it will I know it my dream is totally a secret. I’ll tell you but keep it a secret. The amazing shooting of my first film director David Dhawan amazing song cool hero catch dreams Shreya during full splits. Name of the movie.

I literally have no idea what the last few sentences of this extract mean. I can’t believe I said that I hated Geneva although I suppose that’s a normal feeling when you’re forced to move somewhere new due to your parent’s job. From what I can make out, my dream was to become an actress and I wanted my film to be directed by David Dhawan. For those of you who don’t know, David Dhawan is an Indian film director and he has created many famous Hindi films and these are films that I really loved (and still do) in my childhood. Ironically, now I want to be a screenwriter as opposed to an actress, but it’s clear that even from early on this was the type of industry I wanted to go into.

So that’s it for my diary extracts! I had so much fun reading through all of them last night because it reminded me of how far I’ve come and just how much has happened in ten years and how much has changed in my life. I do have more diaries and more journals so if you guys want to see more of my diary extracts then please let me know and I’ll be sure to post another one!
