The "Friends" Episodes That I Relate To The Most... - Shreya Sachdev

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all having a nice day. For today’s blog post, I thought I would talk about the different “Friends” episodes that I relate to the most. As some of you might know, “Friends” is one of my favorite television shows of all time and I’m sure that everyone reading my blog right now has also watched “Friends” at some point in their life. It’s a very enjoyable and hilarious show because all the characters have such great chemistry and it’s honestly great for all ages. Now that I have such a long holiday in front of me, I have been watching a lot of old “Friends” episodes and I’ve come to realize that in some of the episodes, I can really relate to the characters’ actions or choice of diction. That’s why I thought it would be a great idea to share which episodes I personally feel like I can relate to the most and for which reasons. Moreover, I think it’s important for us to talk about this show because I hear that Netflix is taking down “Friends” in 2020 and we need to make sure that we remember this show in our hearts. Keep in mind, there are around 236 episodes of “Friends” but I’ve narrowed down six to seven which I can relate to. Without further ado, let’s get started!

  1. Season 1 Episode 5: “The One With The East German Laundry Detergent:” In this episode, Rachel and Ross do laundry together and Rachel gets bullied by another woman in the laundry room. This woman makes up rules and tells Rachel that she can’t use the laundry machine because Rachel’s clothes aren’t in the machine yet. The reason as to why I would say that I can relate to this episode is because if you guys have seen this episode, then you would know that Rachel doesn’t know how to do laundry at all and she’s always asking Ross which clothes she’s supposed to put in which basket or which machine. Honestly, I’ve also never ever done laundry before by myself and I feel like I would be the exact same way if I tried to do laundry. I seriously did not even know that you couldn’t put a white piece of clothing with colorful clothes in your machine because then the white piece of clothing could turn pink or red. Anyways, since I’m heading off to college in two months it’s definitely a good idea for me to learn to do the laundry and that’s why I’m planning on learning these things very soon.

  2. Season 2 Episode 7: “The One Where Ross Finds Out”: In this episode, Rachel gets drunk at a restaurant and calls Ross up to confess her feelings. However, he doesn’t pick up so Rachel decides to leave him a voice message instead. In this voice message, she tells him how she feels about him and she tells him that she is now “over him.” I can relate to this episode because I’ve done the exact same thing in the past, in fact quite recently: I got really drunk one night when I was on my high school graduation trip and I ended up drunk texting my crush and telling him how hot I thought he was and how into him I was. I literally sent him over 200 messages that night, and I woke up the next morning and he had opened them and I felt so embarrassed and I literally could not believe what I had done. In the end, however, I suppose it wasn’t the worst thing because for the past few months I had really tried to build up the courage to tell him how I feel, but I could never do it. I would always type the message and just as I was about to send it, I would erase it and tell myself I would try again tomorrow, but I was always way too scared and it never happened. Since I did end up drunk texting him that night, I didn’t really have a choice but to apologize to him a few days later and through the apology, I told him the truth and it was nice for me to finally tell him what I had been keeping inside of me for a while now.

  3. Season 4 Episode 16: “The One With The Fake Party:” In this episode, Rachel decides to host a party for Emily since she’ll be leaving to London soon, but the real reason she decides to throw this party is because she wants to seduce her crush, Joshua. Throughout the episode, Rachel does the most hilarious and embarrassing things to try and get her crush to notice her and if there’s one episode that I relate to the most in the entire series, then it’s definitely this one. In the past, I’ve done the weirdest things to try and impress my crush: When I was 12 years old, I had a crush on a boy who was Serbian and I tried to impress him by telling him that I spoke fluent Serbian. I had even memorized certain phrases that I was planning on speaking on the phone when I was next to him so that he could hear me and get impressed. In the end, my plan failed, but I tried…His loss!

  4. Season 6 Episode 5: “The One With Joey’s Porsche:” In this episode, Joey finds keys to somebody else’s Porsche in the coffeehouse. Even though he intends on making sure the car’s owner gets his keys back, he loves the treatment he gets when he’s around the Porsche so he decides to pretend like it’s his in order to impress girls. At one point, he even dresses up in clothes and hats that are covered in Porsche logos. Honestly, I have to admit that I relate to this because I attempt to flex so much. Often times, I wear designer clothes especially when I’m around a guy I like because I think that it will impress him. In reality, it doesn’t do anything and I think it makes the guy just think I’m weird and that I’m trying too hard to be cool.

  5. Season 6 Episode 7: “The One Where Phoebe Runs:” In this episode, Rachel and Phoebe start living together and to celebrate the fact that they are now roommates, they decide to go running together. When Rachel runs with Phoebe, she realizes how weird she runs and how she runs like she’s a four year old child. Honestly, I completely relate to Phoebe in this episode because whenever I work out, I look like a complete idiot. Even something as simple as jogging, I mess up. Moreover, I recently joined a gym and I have my own trainer and I struggle so much with the machines and half the time I don’t even think that i’m doing the workouts correctly. In other words, I probably look much worse than Phoebe running and working out.
