So Glad I Finally Made This Decision... - Shreya Sachdev
Hi everyone! I hope you’re all having a nice day. For today’s blog post, I’m going to be telling you guys about my reasons for not pursuing my podcast, Youtube, and product idea. Some of you might know that when I was pursuing the IB, I would talk about how I can’t wait to be finished with school and focus on all of my projects. Of course, those projects did not just include my website, but also starting a Youtube channel, getting started with my podcast again, and I also had an idea for a board game that I was really looking forward to creating once I finished school. Now that I have finished school, funnily enough, I have decided to not go through with those ideas and I am more than happy with my decision. To keep a long story short, whilst I loved doing my podcast and I loved the idea of making it big on Youtube, I knew that I wasn’t passionate enough to get started on those ideas. Starting a podcast and doing a Youtube channel are two things that require a person to be extremely committed to and have serious passion for, because otherwise those two business ventures are not going to go anywhere. I knew that what I really wanted to focus on were two things: My website and my screenplays. I’ve mentioned this many times before about myself, and that’s that I’m really passionate about screenwriting and that I want to be one when I am older. Honestly, the entertainment industry is so competitive and that I know that if I’m serious about making it big in this industry, I need to give it everything I’ve got.
So, if any of you are wondering, I did actually start a Youtube channel but I took it down quite soon after because it just wasn’t working out. First of all, I couldn’t think of anything that hadn’t already done before. I really liked the idea of taking a classic movie and pointing out everything that was wrong with it, but obviously a channel like that already exists: It’s called “Cinema Sins” and it has almost ten million subscribers and I knew I could never compete with that. Then, I really liked the idea of creating stories through animation, so I began to try and use different apps that could create animations for me. Honestly speaking, I just didn’t enjoy it and I found the tools to be really confusing and expensive. Whilst I was trying to work on my Youtube channel, I had other taps open that contained my website and my screenplays, and I knew that those were the things that I wanted to be working on. Just because Youtube is great for entrepreneurs does not mean that someone who wants to build their own business has to do it, but for some reason I believed that every entrepreneur should have a Youtube channel and I was wrong in doing so. Considering my board game, I had a really great idea, but once I got started on it I realized that I didn’t have the energy and the drive to continue with this product idea. It was similar to a board game I had created a few months ago that was known as “Written Laughter.” I had finished making the product and everything, but then I didn’t have the motivation to market it or sell it online, even on this website. On the other hand, I was very motivated to sell my books and continue to work on this website.
I suppose what I’m trying to say is that what I love working on are my screenplays and this website. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this, but I literally have a google document with over 300 ideas for films and television shows. Every single day, I wake up and I work on my screenplays. Then, I look for competitions and different production companies that are looking to hire people to write for new films and television shows. I also love working on this website because I love to share stories about my daily life and I love to research unsolved cases and raise awareness about them. I of course love to watch movies and review them, and everything on this website is something that is of great importance to me. Whilst Youtube is out there and it’s a great option for someone like me who’s interested in film and is very creative, I know that it’s not the right kind of business for me. Just because something looks perfect for you does not mean that it is. I’ve tried Youtube and I’ve noticed that it’s not the right path for me which is why I’ve decided to drop it. Likewise, these product ideas and ideas I have for board games are also not for me because people who create products and are successful with them are 100% committed to them, and that’s how they make it big in the world. I am hoping to make it big with my writing and this website. As you all know, I have published six books on Amazon and that’s because I am very passionate about creative writing. I am going to continue working on my screenplays and I hope that by giving it my 100%, I will see my dream come true in a few years.
