Eyebrow Waxing vs Threading: Which One To Choose? - Shreya Sachdev
Hi everyone! I hope you’re all having a nice day. For today’s blog post, I thought I would talk to you guys about eyebrow waxing vs threading, and which one you should choose. This is something I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned on my blog before, but I actually get my eyebrows waxed extremely often (around every two weeks) just because I have a lot of unwanted hair on my face, and I like to remove it just because it personally makes me feel more confident. I don’t only get my eyebrows done, but I also get my upper lip, sideburns, and forehead done as well. I actually just got my eyebrows and everything else waxed today because I didn’t have class today and decided to go to a nearby spa, and that’s what inspired me to write this post. I’m not trying to encourage girls or women to get rid of hair on their body or face, because it’s a personal decision for everyone and I know that these days society makes it appear as if women need to look a certain way, but you shouldn’t let those kind of things influence you. Anyways, along with waxing, I have also gotten my eyebrows threaded. If you guys don’t know what eyebrow threading is, then it’s basically just using a thread to remove hair, and this kind of practice is quite common in Asia, so whenever I go to India to visit my grandparents, I get my eyebrows threaded since they don’t do any kind of waxing for eyebrows over there. I thought that I would talk about the advantages and disadvantages of both threading and waxing, and talk about my personal experience with them to tell you guys which practice I think is better. Below, I’ll be talking about two categories: pain and outcome, so that you guys know which practice scores high in which category. Without further ado, let’s get started!
Pain: Unfortunately, being a girl sometimes means that you need to put yourself through a lot of pain in order to look a certain type of way. There’s no doubt that waxing and threading both hurt, but one definitely hurts more, and that’s threading. I’m not even joking when I say this, but threading literally feels like a cat’s scratching your face. The worst thing about threading is that the pain never stops, and that you have to deal with this scratching sensation for quite a while, whereas with waxing the pain only lasts one second, and you only have to be brave for a short amount of time. Waxing is literally just “ripping the bandaid off” but threading continues and continues, and therefore it’s a lot more painful. Whenever I get threading done in India, it’s so difficult for me to sit still and I constantly have to bite my lip or convince my mind that what’s being done to me isn’t actually that painful. In reality, this doesn’t work at all. My heart’s always beating so fast and I’m always so uncomfortable when my eyebrows are getting threaded. It honestly feels like torture. Therefore, when it comes to pain, I would definitely say that waxing is less painful. It does depend where on your body you are getting waxing, and generally the forehead, middle and above the eyebrows hurts the least, whereas the space below the eyebrows hurts the most. Waxing your upper lip also hurts quite a bit, and I would say that getting your upper lip waxed is actually worse than your eyebrows waxed as a whole. I don’t know if I’m just used to it, but I barely feel any pain anymore when it comes to waxing. It is definitely a lot harder in the beginning, when you’re getting used to the pain, but overtime it does get better. I’ve been getting waxing done since I was fourteen years old, so I’m definitely used to it.
Outcome: When it comes to the outcome, then I have to say I think threading does make my eyebrows look better. Don’t get me wrong, waxing looks great too, but comparing the two I think that threading looks better on me personally. I’m not sure why this is, but I actually think that it’s because with threading you can frame your eyebrows the way you want to, and it’s easier to get the shape you want, whereas in waxing you’re mainly just taking hair off rather than shaping the eyebrows in anyway. I’m always happy when I get my eyebrows waxed because they do look extremely clean, but I think that my eyebrows look more defined and visible when I get them threaded. I honestly don’t know if I’m making any sense, but yes I think that eyebrows look better when they’re threaded. Now, if you’re asking me whether or not I think the pain is worth the outcome, then I would say yes. They do look really good, but if you’re somebody who really can’t handle eyebrow threading, then waxing is a great option that will still make your eyebrows look great. When it comes to how often the hair will come back, then again I will say that hair doesn’t grow back as fast when you do threading, and that you will be able to wait a month or so until you get your eyebrows done again. However, with waxing, your hair will grow back in about two to three weeks (at least for me) and so you will have to go back very soon. I think if you’re going for a long vacation, then getting your eyebrows threaded once is definitely worth it because then you don’t have to worry about the hair growing back anytime soon.
