In The Tall Grass (2019) - Shreya Sachdev
In The Tall Grass
In The Tall Grass (Film) / In The Tall Grass Netflix / Stephen King In The Tall Grass / In The Tall Grass Movie:
In The Tall Grass is a 2019 Netflix drama and mystery film directed by Vincenzo Natali and stars Patrick Wilson, Laysla De Oliveira, Harrison Gilbertson, Avery Whitted, Rachel Wilson, and Will Buie Jr. In The Tall Grass is about a brother and a sister who find themselves trapped in a field full of tall grass after trying to help a boy who they believe was lost in the tall grass. When I first saw the trailer for this movie, I was extremely excited and couldn’t wait to watch it. First of all, it’s adapted from a Stephen King novel, which is why I really thought this movie would be great, and on top of that I think that this is such a unique idea for a movie. We’ve seen a lot of survival movies, such as trying to survive being trapped underwater with sharks floating around, or trying to survive being buried alive, but we’ve never seen anything like being trapped in tall grass and not being able to see anything, and honestly after watching this movie it’s made me realize just how possible it is to get trapped in a field that's filled with tall grass. The movie, itself, however, I have to say lacks execution and that the plot is poorly developed. Don’t get me wrong, this movie is absolutely terrifying, and it’s one of the scariest movies I’ve seen this year, but this movie is extremely confusing and I didn’t understand any of it. I also think that this movie was a bit too rapid, especially in the beginning, and that I wish the characters had waited a little while longer until they got stuck in this field. I do think that there’s a lot of symbolism and hidden meanings in this movie, but these symbols weren’t so clear to me and I’m actually pretty good at figuring out what certain characters and certain objects mean in movies, but I just couldn’t figure this one out. Even watching watching “In The Tall Grass Explained” videos, I’m still very confused as to what this movie is about. I don’t understand the whole concept of the time loop and I don’t understand how certain characters were alive in certain scenes when I thought they were dead. I actually thought that this movie reminded me a lot of the movie “Mother” because in Mother, there’s actually a lot of symbolism and hidden messages, but Mother is actually much easier to follow because the symbolism isn’t too crazy to pin down. Overall, I think that In The Tall Grass had a lot of potential and that this movie was an incredible idea (one that I really wish I had thought of first) but unfortunately lacked execution. I would give this movie a 5/10.
