The Last Summer (2019) - Shreya Sachdev
The Last Summer is a movie directed by William Bindley that stars KJ Apa, Maia Mitchell, Haiston Legend, Tyler Posey, Jacob Latimore, Sosie Bacon, and many more stars. The Last Summer is about a group of teenagers that have just graduated from high school and now have two months of summer left until they go on to start college and embark on different adventures. Due to the fact that it’s their last summer before college starts, these teenagers are put in the situation of “it’s now or never” since it’s their last chance to start a relationship with someone they’ve always had a crush on, or even break up with their current significant other since they know they’ll be going to college soon. I really enjoyed this movie. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a solid teenage film and I’m glad to say that I think The Last Summer was a success. What I liked about this movie is that each character had his or her own separate issue that he or she needed to work on before college started. One girl, for example, was rejected from every college so she needed to figure out what she was going to do after the summer ended. One boy felt the need to express his feelings towards a girl he’s always had a crush on but never got the chance to tell her, and another couple in the film is forced to break up before college starts and they decide to do it the first day of summer, so this revolves around how they both deal with the breakup. All in all, this film revolves around different friendships and romantic relationships that many high school teenagers can relate to. The dialogue is realistic and brings back a strong feeling of nostalgia. I would give this movie an 8/10.
