The Three Rachels (2017) - Shreya Sachdev
The Three Rachels is a 2017 drama film directed by Michael Civille and stars Madison Iseman, Caitlin Carver, Danielle Macdonald, Daniela Bobadilla, and Austin Cauldwell. This movie is about two best friends who are both named Rachel and basically rule their high school together. However, they are both quite different from each other as one is much more open minded and caring whereas the other treats her classmates like complete garbage. Soon, the girls realize that they aren’t getting along anymore and that they are growing apart. When the kind and caring best friend breaks it off with the other Rachel, she does not handle this well and decides to murder her best friend, but makes it appear as a suicide. Now, she hopes that she will be the only one at the center of attention and be the most popular girl in high school again. However, most students aren’t going to let this Rachel win so easily and they are determined to get a confession from her stating that she murdered her best friend. This is what the movie essentially revolves around. When I first watched this movie, it gave me very “2004 Mean Girl” vibes but this movie is much different from that since it’s more about the characterization of the Rachel that murdered her best friend and trying to figure out what her intention exactly is. The plot line is mediocre and isn’t very original and the acting is also quite dry. I have seen movies that have done this kind of story before and have been able to do it much better. I would give this film a 4/10.
