Greta (2018) - Shreya Sachdev
Greta is a 2018 thriller film directed by Neil Jordan and stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Isabelle Huppert, Maika Monroe, and many others. Greta is about a girl named Frances who moves to the city to stay with her best friend in her apartment. When she moves to the city, she soon becomes friends with an older woman (named Greta) after finding her bag on the subway and returning it to her home. Frances finds herself becoming close to this woman perhaps because Frances’ mother died when she was younger, and this woman reminds her of her. However, Frances soon realizes that Greta is up to no good when she sees that Greta has been purposely plotting bags around the city in hopes that someone will come and return them to her, and she will be able to befriend them. As Frances tries to distance herself from Greta, Greta does not handle this situation and well and cannot take no for an answer. Therefore, this entire story revolves around how Frances must deal with Greta stalking her and the consequences this relationship has for her. Personally, I really enjoyed this movie and thought there were many jaw-dropping scenes that had me on the edge of my seat. I also thought the acting was done very well by both the two main characters, and the storyline was extremely interesting. My two problems with the movie were that at the beginning of the movie, I felt as if Frances chose to distance herself from Greta too fast and I wish that the scene where Frances found all of Greta’s bags came a bit later so that the audience could really see their relationship grow. Secondly, the ending was slightly confusing for me and wasn’t executed very well. However, still a watchable film that I would give an 8/10.
