Booksmart (2019) - Shreya Sachdev
Booksmart is a 2019 comedy film directed by Olivia Wilde and stars Kaitlyn Dever, Beanie Feldstein, Billie Catherine Lourd, Skyler Gisondo, and many more. Booksmart is about two girls who have just finished high school and realize that they have spent all four years of high school studying hard academically, but not going out to party or have a social life. They end up getting into top universities (Columbia and Yale) but once they discover that people in their class have also gotten into incredible universities, even with socializing and going to parties, they decide to go to a party for just one night so that they have something other than academics to remember high school by. You know, when I first saw the trailer for this movie, I didn’t think it was going to be a good film. I wasn’t wrong. I didn’t like this movie at all because it tries to be funny but none of the dialogues work. i also found the two characters in the film to be extremely irritating and I overall just didn’t like the movie. It’s a real shame because I actually quite liked the idea of the movie: I think there definitely is a misconception when it comes to kids who go to parties and drink alcohol. Kids who go to parties are obviously extremely smart too and just because they’re more social than others doesn’t mean that they can’t get into a top university. This movie had a lot of potential, but in the end nothing happened. I would give Booksmart a 4/10.
