The Society Season One (2019) - Shreya Sachdev
The Society is a television show that is created by Christopher Keyser and stars Kathryn Newton, Sean Berdy, Kristine Froseth, Rachel Keller, Alex Fitzalan, Toby Wallace, Olivia DeJonge, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Gideon Adlon, Jacques Colimon, and many others. The Society is about a group of teenagers who have to return back to their town once their school field trip is cut short. When they return back to their town, they realize that nobody is there anymore. Everyone has just disappeared. Therefore, the story revolves around how different characters in the show react to this isolation and how they deal with being away from their parents. Even with all the emotions they are feeling, they must come together to figure out what exactly has happened and why everyone has vanished. Obviously, since they are teenagers, some people want to take advantage of the situation and just party and drink alcohol, whereas other teenagers want to be responsible and count how much food they have so they are prepared for the worst case scenario. When I read the plot of this show, I was immediately intrigued because I had never seen a show like this before. However, when it started, I was slightly disappointed. The truth is, this show is very depressing and you really need to be prepared for the amount of drama that follows this show. Moreover, there are a lot of characters in this movie and they’ve each got their own problem which makes the show difficult to follow since it’s hard to remember which character carries which problem. Lastly, I would say that the show is quite slow and that the majority of the episodes just consist of characters fighting with each other or mourning their situation. We rarely see the characters actually coming together to figure out what happened in their town and trying to find clues that can lead to an answer. I would give “The Society” a 4.5/10.
