DISCLAIMER: No disrespect is intended towards anyone that I talk about on this blog post. This blog post is for educational purposes and is being posted on this website in order to raise awareness about this case and to truly hope that the grieving families and friends of these victims find closure and finally find out what happened to their loved one(s). I have gathered all this information on the internet, but unfortunately I do not know how accurate or inaccurate it is. If I have made a mistake somewhere, then I apologize. It is not my intention to spread false information.
Sky Metalwala was just two years old at the time of his disappearance. He lived in Washington with his mother, Julia, and his 4 year old sister, Maile. Sky Metalwala would disappear on the 6th of November in 2011. Sky Metalwala’s parents’ backstory is quite crucial to understanding this case, so I’m going to go ahead and talk about Sky’s parents and their personalities: Sky’s father, Solomon, met Julia at a gas station in 1997. Julia was just 15 years old when she met 21 year old Solomon. They ended up talking at the gas station and he invited her to a party. She came to the party and from that day on they started dating. Solomon and Julia were both immigrants to the United States. Julia was from Ukraine, and Solomon was from Pakistan.
Julia had a very rough childhood before she ended up moving to the United States. She claims that she was subjected to shock therapy in mental hospitals and she was also abused by her parents. All of this really impacted her mental health and her relationships with the people she met. The couple seemed to be fine until the couple’s closest friends began to notice that their relationship started to get rocky. Solomon’s own brother actually called the police on them one time, because they were arguing very loudly at a gas station. Julia also told her therapist that her husband was very controlling and that she was also quite emotionally dependent on him. Despite all of this, in 2003, the couple got married in Solomon’s kitchen. In 2007, the couple had their first child who was a daughter named Maile. Unfortunately, this birth happened during a time in which the couple were going through some financial difficulties. After a while, Solomon soon started to realize that Julia was acting very strange. Julia would clean the house obsessively for hours and hours, and would not interact with anyone else. He also said that this obsessive need to clean got in the way of Julia’s duties as a mother. She was unable to dress Maile and take her to daycare. Soon, Julia would start telling Solomon about her suicidal thoughts.
On September 9th in 2009, the couple had their second child who was a boy named Sky. At this point, the couple’s financial troubles were very bad which caused them a lot of stress. When Sky was just two months old, both his parents left him in a Target parking lot for almost one whole hour when the temperature was -3 degrees celsius. Both parents were arrested and charged, but those charges were dropped when Solomon and Julia agreed to take a parenting class. On Julia’s 29th birthday, Julia was briefly admitted into a mental hospital after telling Solomon that she had a dream where she killed both their children. Julia was diagnosed with OCD and her medication was changed, so things seemed to start to get better for the family since Julia was now getting proper help. However, Julia’s mental health started going downhill again. She would force the family to eat outside so that crumbs wouldn’t be left around in the house, and she would even force Solomon to sleep on the floor to avoid getting the bed sheet wrinkled. Finally, this was all too much for Solomon and he decided to divorce Julia and fight for custody of his children. Soon after Solomon told Julia that he wanted a divorce, Julia was again put into a mental hospital as she texted Solomon: “I cannot live another day, I am dead on the inside anyway and have been dead for a long time.” During the custody battle, it seemed as if Solomon was going to get custody of both children, and so Julia retaliated and tried to win custody. She claimed that Solomon had been lying about her mental state and even claimed that Solomon was abusive. She claimed that Solomon would mentally and physically abuse her and her children, as well as sexually abuse Maile. Solomon has denied all claims. Despite the false allegations that Julia made against Solomon and her mental health, Julia was awarded full custody of both children.
On the day of Sky’s disappearance, Julia claims that Sky woke up feeling very ill and so she decided to take him to the hospital. She put Sky and Maile in the car and began to drive to the hospital, when all of a sudden she realized that she had no fuel in her car anymore. She left her car near a highway, and left Sky in the car as she took Maile with her to search for the nearest gas station. After walking an hour, Julia found a gas station and used the gas station’s phone to call her friend to pick them up. When Julia and Maile returned to their car, Sky was missing from the car. Police quickly began to doubt this account as Julia’s car was found to have enough fuel to make it to the hospital, and police found it suspicious how Julia would leave her sick son alone in the car when it was cold. Along with this, Julia did not take her phone or wallet with her when looking for a gas station, and she also left the car unlocked despite her two year old son being in there. Throughout this entire time, Julia has refused to take a polygraph test whereas Solomon has been very cooperative and taken one twice now. There was even suspicion as to whether or not Sky was in the vehicle at all that day, because motorists that had drove by the car said that they didn’t remember seeing a boy inside of the car.
A very common theory in Sky’s disappearance is that Sky’s disappearance was actually arranged by Julia. This theory began when police learnt about some very strong similarities between Sky’s disappearance and Julia’s favorite TV show, Law & Order. An episode of Law & Order called “Missing Pieces” was about a woman going through a bitter divorce who claimed that her son had been abducted from her car. It later turned out that the woman killed her son and made up the story of an abduction. The episode was originally aired two weeks before Sky’s disappearance and then re-run the day before Sky’s disappearance. Solomon has come out and said that Law & Order was Julia’s favorite TV show when they were together.
After Sky’s disappearance, Maile was taken into foster care with Solomon getting weekly visits and finally getting full custody of his daughter. No traces of Sky were ever found in surrounding neighborhoods and so he’s not thought of to just have wandered off on his own. There have also been no signs of forced entry in the car. The most common theory is that Julia has been involved in her son’s disappearance.
Which theory do I believe?
Like everyone else, I definitely believe that Julia killed her son after watching that episode of Law & Order. She’s already psychotic, and after watching a show about a mother killing her son, it’s not too much of a reach to suggest that she also killed her son. I believe that Sky was never in the car on the morning of 6th November, and that Julia made up the entire story in order to make it seem like an abduction. I don’t think this case is very difficult to solve. Julia has issues.
