Unsolved Cases

This is a page dedicated to information on some of the world’s most famous unsolved mysteries. At the bottom of each unsolved case, I have noted down my theory and what I believe happened. I want to be able to share my theories, but more importantly raise awareness for so many cases that still unfortunately remain unsolved.

The Unsolved Disappearance Of Maura Murray (2004) - Shreya Sachdev

DISCLAIMER: No disrespect is intended towards anyone that I talk about on this blog post. This blog post is for educational purposes and is being posted on this website in order to raise awareness about this case and to truly hope that the grieving families and friends of these victims find closure and finally find out what happened to their loved one(s). I have gathered all this information on the internet, but unfortunately I do not know how accurate or inaccurate it is. If I have made a mistake somewhere, then I apologize. It is not my intention to spread false information.

Maura Murray was born on the 4th of May in 1982 in Massachusetts to Fred and Laura Murray who actually got divorced when she was six years old. On February 9th in 2004, Maura Murray disappeared when she was in a car crash. When police arrived at the scene, there was nobody there. The car was locked and Maura was never seen again.

Maura Murray was said to be a very nice and ambitious girl by her friends and her family, but she did sometimes get herself into trouble. Along with this, she was also bulimic. Maura Murray attended WestPoint University which she then withdrew from, because she didn’t want to be expelled as the school board was going to expel her since Maura had stolen makeup. Maura then decided to enroll at UMAS Amherst. While she was there, she also got in trouble for credit card fraud. She was then charged with improper use of a credit card under 250$ as she spent all this money on food for herself. On the topic of eating disorder, it has been said that at family dinners, Maura Murray’s parents would make rude comments about her bulimia and say unnecessary things to her all the time.

4 days before Maura’s disappearance, Maura received two phone calls when she was at her workplace (being a security guard at her university) and thus she sat down at a desk late at night to do her job. According to phone records, it has been said that Maura received one phone from her sister that night, and an antonymous phone call at 1:00am, and that at 1:20am, Maura’s boss came in to talk to her and said that she looked completely distraught and that it looked as if Maura had been crying. Maura’s supervisor has confirmed that when he asked her what was wrong, she was too distraught to speak but she did mumble the words “sister” and that’s all she could say. Maura’s supervisor ended up walking Maura up to her dorm room, but her supervisor didn’t want to leave Maura alone because she looked so depressed. However, Maura insisted that she was fine and even told her supervisor that she had a roommate, which was a lie. When authorities asked Maura’s sister what the phone call was about, Maura’s sister told them that all they did was talk about how Maura’s sister was having some problems with her boyfriend, and that the conversation wasn’t that big of a deal. Thus, it seems a little strange that Maura was so upset after the phone call.

Interestingly enough, there was actually a hit and run just thirty minutes before Maura went upstairs to her dorm room. Many people believe that it was actually Maura who was the one that was driving the car and accidentally hit someone, and this would explain why she looked so distraught and why she was so anxious when her supervisor talked to her. However, there is absolutely no evidence to support this theory.

Just 2 days before Maura’s disappearance, on the 7th of February, Maura’s father named Fred actually visited Maura and they went car shopping. Nobody can confirm whether or not these two actually went car shopping, but that is what Fred has always said. Later that night, Fred and Maura had dinner with Maura’s friend, and Maura’s friend has actually told authorities that when they met up, Maura and Fred said nothing about going car shopping that day. After they went to a local pub for dinner, Fred drove Maura and her friend to a liquor store After this, Maura dropped her father off at a motel because Fred was going to let Maura and her friend drive his car since they were going to a party later that night.

The original plan was for Maura to come home after the party, stay at her dorm, and then drop the car off the next morning. However, this did not happen and Maura actually left the party at around 2:30am, saying that she needed to drop the car off to her dad. However, she left with a boy who remains unidentified to this day. However, other people say that Maura actually left alone. At 3:30am, Maura Murray was in a car crash and completely ruined her father’s car, and ends up being dropped off at her father’s motel by a police car. When Maura reaches her father’s motel, her father spends the entire night not knowing that she is there. Maura actually calls her boyfriend from her father’s motel and tells him about the car crash, and he promises to call her back later. Nevertheless, it should be noted that both Maura and her boyfriend were cheating on each other and thus had a very complicated relationship.

Later that morning, When Maura’s father woke up, Maura told her father about the car crash, and her father did not seem mad about it as he knew that insurance would cover the damage. Maura’s father then ended up renting a car to drop Maura off to her dorm room.

The day that Maura disappeared which was the 9th of February, Maura looked up maps on map quest and was looking how to get to Bennington, Vermont. She also emailed her boyfriend to tell him that she was sorry she didn’t respond to his calls and that she was just not in a good place to talk right now. She then called up a condo in New Hampshire at which her parents had stayed at previously but they ended up refusing her request to stay there. Later, she called up a fellow nursing student for reasons unknown. At 1:20pm, she called up her workplace to tell them that she was not going to be able to make it into work for a whole week as there was a sudden death in her family. However, there was no death in her family, and Maura clearly lied about this. At 2:05pm, she called a number to ask about booking hotels in Vermont which she listened to for five minutes, before calling up her boyfriend. Maura’s boyfriend, however, did not answer so she just ended up leaving him a voicemail in which she told him that she would call him later. She then packed up her car in which she kept toiletries, birth control pills, clothes, etc. Her entire dorm room was packed too. At 3:30pm, Maura Murray went to an ATM and took out absolutely everything from her bank account. Maura then stops at a liquor store where she buys vodka and wine from, and then picks up documents relating to the car crash she was in. Finally, at 7:30pm, Maura Murray was in another car crash. A bus driver that was driving around the same area in which Maura was in later that evening said that he saw the car crash and went to check if everything was okay, which is when he found Maura looking extremely distraught and very upset. He also said that it smelt like vodka in there which means that it is possible she was drunk driving. When he asked if she wanted him to call the police, she said that she had already called the Triple A which was a lie since they have no records of Maura calling them. However, the bus driver believed her and then took off.

There was also another witness to this, and this was a woman who lived in the area who saw the car crash from her window when she heard it. She was the one who ended up calling the police and telling them that she had witnessed a car crash. Police were the ones who then arrived at the scene and found the abandoned car, with nobody inside of it. Police inspected the car and found books about climbing mountains as well as maps and directions to Vermont. At 5:17pm the next day, Maura Murray was officially considered a missing person.

Which theory do I believe?

Wow. This case is really confusing from start to finish, and I wish I could find out what exactly happened to Maura Murray. However, I will say that I truly believe Maura Murray was the one involved in the hit and run at UMAS Amherst and that this was the event that prompted Maura to want to run away. I definitely believe that she was the one who hit another student at the university by accident, and that this is why her father took her car shopping the next day. However, Maura was still traumatized and that’s why she got into two car crashes just before her disappearance, as she naturally felt as if she was not capable of driving and she felt guilty of injuring another person. When she injured this person, she felt the need to run away because she felt completely worthless and wanted to start a new life. However, I will say that it’s strange how to this day nobody has seen Maura Murray at all, which is why I somewhat believe that Maura’s father aided his daughter in helping her run away and keeping her isolated. I believe that Maura Murray is still alive, and has ran away to start a new life.
